Well, all the wines are in. We managed to pick our way around the inclement weather rather well. In the vats we have a nice late-picked Sauvignon Blanc from Phil Thompson’s Briar Hill vineyard and Quarry Hill vineyard. We also have another good Riesling from Phil’s vineyard. For the first time for a couple of years we have made a new Rose, a blend of Merlot and Shiraz, delicate pink and lots of flavour. The red grapes matured well, early because of the heat in January, but with very good colour and flavours. We have a dark Shiraz Viognier from Martin’s home block, a more delicate Pinot Noir, with grapes from Pankhurst and Quarry Hill and our usual Trio blend – Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Point of View and Cabernet franc from Surveyor’s Hill. In between all this, a vintage red Lotus appeared and contributed to the vintage by providing a striking red colour to match the grapes.
