McKellar Ridge won a Gold Medal for its 2013 Riesling in the recent Canberra Regional Wine Show, September 2013.
Chief Judge, Mr. Mike Bennie spoke highly of the Region’s 2013 Rieslings in his Judge’s comments on the Class: “An extraordinary class of glorious Rieslings – a true benchmark nationally and beyond. Purity, delicacy, beautiful fruit to the fore – a regional champion variety. Thank you.”
Winemaker, Brian Johnston said: “We are very pleased to have achieved a score of 56/60 for this wine – the fruit, from Phil and Judi Thomson’s Briar Hill Vineyard was top quality and we were able to achieve optimal ripeness. By handpicking, we preserved the delicate fruit flavours of the grapes through into the wine. The fruit was basket pressed and cool fermented at 15 degrees Celcius to protect the fruit aromas and produce a well-balanced Riesling with intense citrus and lime flavours.”
